Stefan gets a shock visit from a chum from 100 years back, Lexi who strolls into town.

Lexi eventually gets Stefan to confess that he is head over heels in love with Elena. Lexi is surprised to see the great similarity between Elena and Katherine (the brothers previous lover from over 100 years ago).

Lexi talks to Elena about how the right love can conquer all and overcome barriers to be together. Meanwhile, Damon delivers Policeman Forbes a box of vervane. He uses his eyes to coerce Caroline into having a jolly at the Griddle, and he is makes a new kill there. This is all part of a scheme to throw the city council off his back, who are crawling closer to finding the vampires in the city.

Damon again uses his stare to manipulate the girlfriend of the guy he killed to frame Lexi as the killer. Captured by the local cops, Lexi still had some strength left in her to free herself from them, but Damon comes in and finishes her off with a stake. Stefan spares Damon’s life at the end of the episode because Damon had saved his sometime before and he can’t bring himself to murder his brother. Damon again uses his Vampire stare to erase Jeremy’s memory of Vicki’s death. He also manages to transform Jeremy into a sober, clean, good student. Bonnie informs Elena that she’s a witch and shows her some displays of her new powers. Finally Bonnie has a bizarre dream and awakes in a cemetery.
