Vervain is bought by Stefan for Jenna,Elena and Jeremy as it stops any vampire powers from being able to control the wearer. Elena is still thinking who the man she ran over could be and they order pizza. Jeremy continues to be a good student getting a grade A and gives Alaric one of the journals. Elena confides in Bonnie that she was adopted and ponders on her real parents as the Gilberts are listed on her birth certificate, Bonnie advises Elena to take this matter up with Jenna.

Whilst getting into her car Elena gets a call from the man she ran over threatening her, she drives to the safety of Stefan who gives her one of her ancestors watches which also protects her from vampires. He tells her that in the 1800s the Gilbert family were vampire hunters and wished to eradicate them all.

Elena visits Jenna and the truth is revealed. A 16 year old pregnant girl by the name of Isobelle just turned up at the Gilberts family home, she gave birth leaving Elena there. As he was a doctor, Elenas non-biological father was able to fake the birth certificates to look like they were the real parents.

Stefan gives Damon their fathers journal to show him that there is no way to release Katherine from the tomb, nevertheless he agrees to continue to help him find the way to release her but without also releasing the other 26 vampires who are also in the tomb.

Back at the house, Elenas compass starts spinning, and a vampire suddenly attacks her. Just before he manages to bite her Stefan (as per usual) comes to the rescue and scares the intruder off. They decide to go to the 1950s dance in an attempt to lure the culprit in. At the dance Bonnie is angry Damon has turned up and Stefan and Alaric are introduced to each other. Ben asks Bonnie out whilst Annas eyes turn black after it’s revealed that Jeremy has given one of the old journals to Alaric. Damon teaches Elena the jive.

The stalker vampire calls Elena threatening to attack her brother if she doesn’t comply with his demands, she runs away to the cafeteria where the predator awaits her. The vampire brother turn up to save Elena and the plan for Katherine is revealed, then we find out that Ben is a vampire, partnering with Anna.
