The Vampire Diaries
The Vampire Diaries TV show first aired on The CW Television Network (USA) on September 10th 2009, giving the channel it’s largest viewing figures to date. Indeed it seems the vampire mania continues. The TV version is based on the books created by L.J.Smith and has been taken to TV by Kevin Williamson who initially didn’t want to take part in it’s creation due to the plethora of vampire related TV shows and subggenres. However after further meetings and looking at the draft scripts he changed his mind. : “I began to realise that it was a story about a small town, about that town’s underbelly and about what lurks under the surface.” With a new found fondness toward the characters and story he agreed to start work on the project.
The Vampire Diaries TV show is based upon the books but the producers focus more on the town history itself rather than the books focus of the local high school. All the action takes place in a fictional town by the name of Mystic Falls, Virginia USA. The story focuses on Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls in love with two old (yet appear young as per usual) vampire brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) who reintroduce themselves to the town after many years of exile.
In the USA the show is shown every Thursday at 8pm local US time. The Vampire Diaries TV Show UK on ITV2, it’s shown at 9pm and already has a strong following.
